About
The Inland Northwest branch of the Society for Women in Philosophy (SWIP-IN) was established in response to a need to facilitate dialogue among philosophers working in our local universities. We aim to create a community where colleagues—including students, early-career professors, and established members of the profession--who identify as women or as non-binary are able to collaborate and network.
SWIP-IN includes Eastern Washington, Northern Idaho, and Western Montana. Within these areas participating universities include: Washington State University, University of Idaho, Gonzaga University, and Montana State University.
SWIP bridges the distances among these universities by continuously promoting opportunities for collaboration. SWIP-IN's first major networking and philosophy event was hosted by the University of Idaho in the spring of 2019. This event is expected to be annual and to grow each year it is held. The event includes a meet-and-greet with the attending guest(s); a talk given by the guest(s); and SWIP-Shop, a workship involving the close reading of a work sample with SWIP-IN members. Additionally, regular meetings are held to discuss and present relevant works in the field. These meetings are attended and guided by several professors and undergraduates.
To stay up-to-date on all things SWIP-IN by checking out our 'past events' , or by being added to our email list.
